Low Income Housing Targets Senior Citizens
Shannon Heights offers low-income housing
OMAHA, Neb. —Shannon Heights provides low-income rent to a group of people that are often under-served. Now, there are 28 new units reserved for senior citizens on the grounds near 18th and Locust streets.
Greater St. Paul Ministries in partnership with Excel Development broke ground on the homes about a year and a half ago, and within weeks of completion, every unit was filled up. The group said it’s because the people they serve lack options.
Bob Lucas moved to Shannon Heights about four months ago after he said he could barely afford his west Omaha home.
He’s one of 28 people between the age of 55 and 85 who are establishing a new life at Shannon Heights.
